An interview is your opportunity to demonstrate more than what's written on your résumé. Preparation, communication and genuine interest in the opportunity will make a significant difference.
Research the company thoroughly. Understand what they do, their customers, their industry and the position you're interviewing for. Review the job description and think about examples from your experience that demonstrate how you meet the key requirements.
Prepare examples of your achievements using specific results wherever possible. Rather than simply saying you increased sales, improved a process or reduced costs, explain what you did and the measurable outcome.
Know your résumé. Be prepared to confidently discuss your career history, responsibilities, achievements, reasons for leaving previous positions and what you're looking for next.
Listen carefully to each question and take a moment to consider your response. Give clear, relevant answers and use real examples rather than speaking only in general terms.
Be yourself. Employers aren't only assessing technical capability; they're considering communication style, attitude, motivation and how you'll work with their existing team.
Show genuine interest in the opportunity. Ask thoughtful questions about the position, team, expectations and business. An interview should be a two-way conversation that helps both parties determine whether the opportunity is right.
Consider asking what success looks like in the first 6–12 months, what the immediate priorities are, how the team is structured, why the position is available, what challenges the successful candidate will inherit and what the next steps in the interview process will be.
Consider asking what success looks like in the first 6–12 months, what the immediate priorities are, how the team is structured, why the position is available, what challenges the successful candidate will inherit and is there anything you'd like clarified, or addressed regarding initial concerns or queries you may have.
Take a few minutes to reflect on the conversation while it's fresh. Consider what you learned, whether the opportunity aligns with what you're looking for and whether there is anything you would like clarified.
If you're working with Precision Placements, provide feedback as soon as possible. Be open about your level of interest, any concerns you have and other recruitment processes you're involved in.
